Client: Trelawny SPT Ltd
Clarity regarding import duties and taxes removed a significant barrier to sales in India resulting in sales growth of 17%.
Surface Preparation Equipment | Trelawny (trelawnyspt.com)
Trelawny SPT Ltd is the surface preparation specialist part of the Indutrade Group, Sweden. Established over 60 years ago, they manufacture a range of pneumatic tools and surface preparation equipment that is sold worldwide through a global network of quality-approved stockists and distributors.
Trelawny SPT Ltd products are manufactured in the UK primarily using imported parts and 80% of the finished product is exported. Due to prohibitive import duties and taxes, landed costs of the end product to India are significantly restricting growth in what should be a successful market.
The Intertrade Services Groups was engaged to do a Company Audit of Import / Export Processes and to assess whether an Export Strategy could be developed to mitigate the costs of selling to the Indian market.
Following a visit to site to work with the Trelawny team and understand their operations and challenges The Intertrade Services Groups provided a report with a number of practical recommendations covering HS codes, Incoterms, export licenses and logistics. Close analysis of the import declarations revealed that the actual rates of import duty were far lower than Trelawny’s distributors had believed, the vast majority of the tax payable was IGST – the equivalent of UK VAT which can be reclaimed.
Further recommendations were made regarding Trelawny’s future export strategy for India including restructuring the supply chain to take advantage of rules of origin.
Many thanks for your practical recommendations for our processes and insight regarding our larger strategy for India – very useful
